You’re probably a little bit baffled by the title of this post, let me explain…
Remember when you were little and your pride and joy was your colouring book, you put 110% effort into staying within the lines and the day you finished your colouring book was as sad a day as it was glorious.
Now there were two types of kids as far as colouring books went, there were kids that had books that within in sections of a picture would have a number representing a colour (e.g. 1 = red) and there were kids who didn’t.
There are two ways of looking at the kids who didn’t have the numbers:
1. They were free spirits, allowed the freedom to express themselves in what ever way they felt. No boundaries, no expectation! If they wanted a orange grass, why not?! maybe god missed a trick when he made grass green??
2. They were trusted to be smart enough to put colours on the page in such a way that the picture still looked good.
Now let’s look at the kids WITH the numbers… these individuals were (in my opinion) thought by their parents/teachers or heaven forbid au pairs to be so lazy or stupid as to need a step by step guide of how to make the picture good.
Now if you’re still with me, this is where the fashion part comes in…
Increasingly I have noticed this same “by numbers” approach creeping into the nations fashion conscious. A nation of Check shirt, over-sized beanie, skinny jeaned zombies roaming the streets, each THINKING that they look good.
Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against checked shirts per say (to be honest I can’t stand over-sized beanies), its the flagrant disregard to individual style and the idea of putting together an outfit. People seem to simply walk into Topshop with £200 quid and walk out with basically the same outfit as the man in the queue in front of them.
PLEASE PEOPLE BRING BACK INDIVIDUALITY!
